Ilse Loesch Collection (1909 - 2006)

"In the art of dance body, emotion and mind move and challenge each other and fuel creativity." (Ilse Loesch)

The German dancer and dance teacher studied with Rudolf von Laban and worked with Jenny Gertz for a long time. In her work with disabled students, movement choirs, adolescents, drama students and children she aimed to emphasise the holistic aspect of dance and movement, thus actively supporting the personal evolution of her students.
Her book Mit Leib und Seele. Erlebte Vergangenheit des Ausdruckstanzes (Berlin 1990) is a powerful narration of her more than 50 years of experience as a dance teacher and dedicated advocate of modern dance.

Her vast collection includes documentation on amateur dance, vocational dance training, dance art, movement and dance research, notation as well as personal correspondence, a collection of pictures and programmes and a historical-cultural collection.
