„Les Archives internationales de la danse (1931-1952)“

„Les Archives internationales de la danse (1931-1952)“

Inge Baxmann/ Claire Rousier/ Patrizia Veroli: Les Archives internationales de la danse (1931-1952). Editions du CND, Paris 2006.

Until 1952, the „A.I.D.” was an international meeting place for emigrated dancers, dance and cultural scientists and ethnologists studying subjects such as physical culture, anthropology and community concepts. By connecting and keeping files on non-European dance practise, European folk dance, modern dance forms and theory and history of movement culture, the „A.I.D.“ launched a project aimed at the rediscovery of physical knowledge which also meant to challenge out-dated knowledge systems. The project was realised in cooperation with the "Centre national de la danse" and resulted in this publication and a conference which took place on 28 March to 2 April of this year. Its main topic was the visibility and development of the A.I.D.’s holdings. The German version of the volume will be out soon.

„Deutungsräume. Bewegungswissen als kulturelles Archiv der Moderne“

„Deutungsräume. Bewegungswissen als kulturelles Archiv der Moderne“

Inge Baxmann, Franz Anton Cramer (Ed.): Deutungsräume. Bewegungswissen als kulturelles Archiv der Moderne, Wissenskulturen im Umbruch Vol. 1, K. Kieser Publishing House, Munich 2005.

Today we perceive our bodies, senses and movement cultures from a new angle in the context of modern age cultural history. Knowledge in the 21st century is no longer a constant but often defined by specific experiences. Fundamental changes within these knowledge cultures result in new concepts for the production and filing of such forms of experience. This volume shows different approaches in art and science in the attempt to create new bonds between movement and the preservation of the legacies of the past in present times.

"Rudolf von Laban und die Entstehung des modernen Tanzdramas"

"Rudolf von Laban und die Entstehung des modernen Tanzdramas"

Böhme, Fritz:
Rudolf von Laban und die Entstehung des modernen Tanzdramas.
Berlin: Edition Hentrich, 1996.

This publication comes as the answer to a very acute need of German dance studies: the comprehensive and (self-) critical treatment of their own history. Böhmes identifying statements underline Laban’s crucial role in dance theory, history, criticism and practise in pre-war Germany. There is a biographical and idea-historical preface and an appendix which is partly based on Fritz Böhme’s and Rudolf von Laban’s bequests at the Leipzig Dance Archive. The edition also contains indexes of works and papers relating to Laban and to Böhme and Laban. The master drawings, also part of the bequests, are first publications.

"Spiegelungen. Die Ballets Russes und die Künste"

"Spiegelungen. Die Ballets Russes und die Künste"

Jeschke, Claudia/Berger, Ursel/Zeidler, Birgit (Ed.): Spiegelungen. Die Ballets Russes und die Künste.
Berlin: Vorwerk 8 Publishing House, 1997.

The Ballets Russes and their unforgettable artists Anna Pawlowa and Waclaw Nijinsky, Tamara Karsawina and Ida Rubinstein, Michail Fokin and Leonide Massine made history, their legendary impresario Sergej Diaghilew still being viewed as an important influence in modern ballet. Like no other ballet company, the Ballets Russes influenced the artistic taste of their time: numerous documents from the fine arts, theatre and feature articles bear witness to this extraordinary mutual inspiration of different art forms; a unique phenomenon to this day.

"Bewegung im Blick"

"Bewegung im Blick"

Jeschke, Claudia/Bayerdörfer, Hans-Peter (Ed.): Bewegung im Blick. Beiträge zu einer theaterwissenschaftlichen Bewegungsforschung.
Berlin: Vorwerk 8 Publishing House, 2000.

The aesthetics of movement is what makes dance so fascinating for many of today’s audiences and this applies not only to dance and choreography but to any form of stage play. This is why, for the last 100 years, movement theory has been central to the reform of theatre. Movement research is one of the cornerstones of theatre studies. How is movement staged in the different genres? And where exactly do theatre-specific discourses on movement leave the realm of theatre and become a more general cultural debate? Other than theatre and dance studies, it was especially in the fields of sociology, anthropology and ethnology that different cultural productions of movement were scrutinised and analysed between the contrasting concepts of „naturalism“ and „virtuosity“.

"In Memoriam Dr. Kurt Petermann"

"In Memoriam Dr. Kurt Petermann"

Reinsberg, Ilsedore (Ed.):
In memoriam Dr Kurt Peterman.
Berlin: Vorwerk 8 Publishing House, 2002.

Dr Kurt Petermann (1930-1984) was a dance and music scientist, co-founder and director of the first and only dance archive of the GDR, today’s Leipzig Dance Archive. He worked relentlessly so that in future – our present – there would be an institution providing facts and information on the dance and cultural scene of the GDR. At the same time he gave us an insight into the life and work of a GDR scientist.
